Being a montage of a certain span of time in the evolution of the Namboodiris of Kerala, ISHTI (denoting “Search for Self”) seeks to symbolically portray not only the little known economics that drove ageing Namboodiris to choose many young women from well off homes. Thus love was the first casualty in all such “for-survival” alliances.
(“It was only for getting some dowry money that I decided to choose a girl from another home” says Ramavikraman Namboodiri) but also the unspeakable trauma through which dark corridor the Namboodiri wives passed through with silent obedience to what they viewed as their Destiny!
